I originally called this project as “RJNTX RDIO #1s” and I decided to rename it to Rowjienetix #1s. Through “scrobbling” in Last.fm, I am able to know the songs that I listen to and how many times I played them in my music player. Last.fm generates a weekly chart of these songs and I compiled all the songs that reached the number 1 spot in my chart and came up with the idea of creating a playlist based on these songs in 8Tracks.

So far, I already compiled seven volumes of Rowjienetix #1s which I will post again here in my blog.

Days 4 & 5

I spent the last two days of my stay in Singapore with my college friends - Mark and Vanny. I feel happy seeing and spending the weekend with them there. We talked a lot and didn’t care much where our feet will bring us.

Since I’ve been to some tourist destinations in Singapore earlier this year, I preferred to just stroll around the malls there. But we went to Gardens By The Bay since it is one of the newest attractions in Singapore. I somehow love seeing lots of trees that’s why I appreciate the place and their efforts to come up with something like it.

I felt sad when me and my friends had to part ways last Sunday. Mark works in Malaysia and Vanny works in Singapore.

I want to thank Julie, Florence, Vanny and Mark for making my short vacation in Singapore a memorable one. I am now starting to think where my next adventure will be.

Yeah… Another late post…

Anyway, I just want to share my third day of my Singapore trip. We finally had hands-on/programming activities during the training. It was actually too technical but I hope I can get used to it soon. I’m a little bit disappointed because I was expecting an extensive training. It was like “Here is a sample, here is the website for your reference, do whatever you want”. Okay, I think I’ll be doing a lot of studies and tests soon.

Before heading to the hotel, I strolled around the malls again to look for something to buy for my family and friends in the Philippines. It is actually a challenge for me because I can’t help converting Singapore dollar to Philippine pesos. And most of the time prices in Singapore are almost twice than the prices in the Philippines. I’ll share to you some of the items that I bought soon.

I spent some hours chatting with my former office mates who are now working in Singapore. I call them my “original movie mates”. I don’t actually go to theaters before. And then out of nowhere it just became our habit to watch movies together.

And it was nice seeing Julie and Florence again. We are four in the group. Bam still stays in the Philippines, though I tempted her to go to Singapore too so we can all meet again and maybe watch a movie. I am happy for them because they are doing good in Singapore. We had dinner in Makansutra.

It is a memorable night even though our time was limited. I hope the four of us will meet again soon… and maybe we’ll watch a movie. ^_^

Day 2

One of the things that amazes me here in SIN is that even though it has the same timezone with MNL, is that the sun rises and sets around an hour later than in MNL. So I would usually wake up later here because I feel that it is still too early to get out of the bed.

I woke up a little bit irritated too because I was informed that they had a meeting in the office last Wednesday and it just didn’t turn out good. I really wish I could fly back to MNL to at least defend the side of MIS. I am just upset to know that someone said that we are not paying attention to a recent issue where in fact we just (proudly) made a major update recently telling “Hey, we made an update and we are positive that this will solve the issues that we encountered recently”. It just makes me angry.

Anyway, I had a quick breakfast for I feel like I’m going to be late for the training. Went out of the hotel an hour before the training. Good thing that travelling from Bugis to Tampines is just a train ride away. It took me around 30 minutes to reach my destination. I also didn’t have a hard time looking for Abacus Plaza. So I came around 20 minutes before the scheduled time of training.

Mr. Renata Dharma from Indonesia will lead the training. I am with 3 Malaysian guys who also work for Abacus. One of them is Kelvin who joined me for lunch. We even had a picture with the “cup mascot” who I think copied his hands from Mickey Mouse.

I am really hopeful that I will learn a lot from the training and it will be helpful as well for the requirements of our office. I am somehow excited to start the project and to see it up and running soon.

I strolled around Tampines after the training. Maybe you just really need to entertain yourself if you feel alone especially in a foreign country. For sure this is how people who leave their family in the Philippines to work in a foreign country feels too, and maybe worse for some.

I feel friendly today to my fellow Filipinos. I passed by a booth of a cable TV service provider. A man approached me and asked if I am subscribed to any cable service provider. I looked at him. Maybe he recognized that I am a Filipino. Then I started to talk in Tagalog. Maybe my tounge is really longing to speak in Tagalog. I spent some time in their booth to the point that he was already asking for help how to download drivers for his soundcard from the internet. He invited me outside for few minutes to talk.

I would also usually fall in line to the cashier if I think if he or she is a Filipino. The other night, I bought mineral water from a 7 Eleven. The cashier looked at me and asked, “Ipaplastic pa po?”. I said “Hindi na po. Salamat!” And I smiled at her.

Last night I ate in KFC. The cashier asked me “What’s your order sir?” I answered “Zinger meal.” She asked me, “Dito po kakainin?” I smiled at her and nodded.

I appreciated the word “Salamat” last night and how I wish I can also be like that when I return to MNL.

Day 1

I know this post is late. But as always, I would always end up sleeping once I lie down in my bed. Anyway, I have to be here in Singapore for a training, which actually I am still thinking if this is a good move for me.

Travel from MNL to SIN was okay except for the immigration officer in MNL who asked me a lot of questions. Maybe I shouldn’t have put “Training” in the reason why I am going to SIN in the embarkation card. Anyway, I’m just telling the truth. Rode Philippine Airlines and everything was just on time as planned.

Arrived in SIN around 10 AM. It’s good that I remember the last time I was here few months ago that’s why I am a little bit familiar of what I should do. Arrived in Summerview Hotel around 11 AM. I am not really particular to where I will stay, just as long it is decent - safe and clean. But I felt sad when I entered my room. I suddenly felt alone. I think it should’ve been happier if I am with someone. So I just turned on the televison. Unfortunately, there are only a few channels and I couldn’t find any good channel to watch so I just turned it off and took a nap.

When I woke up, I spent some time strolling around the area. I find the place good because there are a lot of malls around. Not to mention that it is really expensive here in SIN compared to MNL. So it is really hard to buy something because I keep on converting the prices from SGD to PHP. I took a look inside the Bugis market to look for some souveniers. But I think I won’t buy magnets or keychains this time. Hehe. ^_^
